New Urgent Care Facility & Fundraiser for No Freeze Shelter

November 13, 2024

Our community now has better access to timely health care after a new urgent care facility opened in Willimantic. Please read below to learn more about the facility.

Neighbors came out to support a fundraiser for the No Freeze shelter. We had a fabulous guest on my weekly radio show to speak on what items you can donate to those in need. Keep scrolling to find that valuable information.

A nice crowd recognized our military heroes over the weekend for Veterans Day. We thank you for your service.

New Urgent Care Facility Opens
I was proud to attend a ribbon cutting for a new walk-in clinic, which will provide more affordable care. Hartford Healthcare opened a GoHealth Urgent Care at 1315 Main Street in Willimantic near the Planet Fitness.
The facility offers treatment for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, on-site X-ray services, and diagnostic testing. It is open 365 days a year, including holidays, with regular hours from 8 A.M.- 8 P.M. from Monday through Friday and 9 A.M. -5 P.M. on weekends.

Let's Talk About It: Fundraiser for No Freeze Shelter

We had a great conversation about the Willimantic Lions Club and its big fundraiser for those in need in need. Kit Eves, a proud Lion and member of the board of directors, joined my weekly radio show “Let’s Talk About It” to share how the community can support our most vulnerable.

Last Friday, the Willimantic Lions Club hosted a fundraiser, which will support the Windham Region No Freeze Project. Organizers asked for the following donations:

  • New and used winter coats, mittens, gloves, hats, boots
  • Sweatshirts and sweatpants
  • New socks
  • Toilet paper, trash bags, brown paper bags

The No Freeze shelter on Valley Street will use all monetary donations to expand the facility. It currently has 28 beds, but there is a much greater need. The No Freeze shelter also needs financial support to pay for heat and hot water in order for the facility to remain open year-round.

Additionally, the Lions Club partners with Windham Public Schools to help provide eye exams, which determines if our children have sight issues. The program identifies whether students cannot see properly, which can affect their classroom performance. The Lions Club also extends its support by providing glasses to individuals and families who are living in poverty. The group collects used glasses, cleans them, and refurbishes them to be distributed to the needy.

Thanking Our Veterans
I joined the community in honoring and thanking our heroes over Veterans Day Weekend. It’s important to show veterans that we will always respect their invaluable service to our country and recognize the millions of men and women who have served in the U.S. military.
Their dedication, courage, and sacrifice have protected our freedoms and upheld the values we hold dear. We are profoundly grateful to each veteran for their unwavering commitment and the sacrifices they've made for our nation.
