| On Friday evening, I had the privilege of attending and participating in the Flag Day ceremonies at Coe Park with Elks Lodge 372.
June 14 - Flag Day - is mandatory service for the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. In 1907, the Elks became the first fraternal body to adopt by Resolution that June 14 be designated as Flag Day in our Order. President Woodrow Wilson established a National Flag Day in 1916 by presidential proclamation. In 1949, President Harry Truman, himself an Elk, signed an act of Congress designating June 14 each year as Flag Day.
(Noted in the Elks script to celebrate Flag Day): The evolution of the American Flag marks the progression of the government of the American people. From the founding of Jamestown in Virginia in 1607, until 1775, the Flag of England was the Flag of the Peoples of America. The original thirteen Stars and Stripes represented the original thirteen colonies. In 1795, two additional Stars and Strips were added to represent admission to the Union of Vermont and Kentucky. Under this banner of 15 Stars and Stripes was fought the War of 1812. It was the sight of it flying over Fort McHenry, on September 14, 1814, that inspired Francis Scott Key to write what was to become our national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner." |

| I had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. this week for the Interstate Compact for School Psychologists (ICSP) Legislative Summit, hosted by the Council of State Governments. Among the topics discussed: the state of school psychology in the United States, meeting minimum qualifications for school psychologists, the importance of school psychology regulation, learning what other states do regarding licensure regulation, and more. |

| I was happy to join the Women's Business Development Council (WBDC), along with Richard Lopez Jr, Torrington Economic and Community Development Coordinator; Torrington City Council Member Stephen Ivain; William Wallach, Director of Economic Development; Senator Lisa Seminara, and City Council Member Anne Ruwet at Torrington Library on Monday to discuss the Torrington/WBDC Small Business Grant Program.

| TPD Warns of Cryptocurrency Scam |

| Cryptocurrency Scam Alert
Torrington Police would like to alert area residents of a cryptocurrency scam involving a hacked Facebook account. The account was taken over and is promising financial success by investing in cryptocurrency through their platform. The account owner is no longer in control of his page and has reported the takeover to Meta Platforms Inc. (Facebook). Victims also report they have reported the fraudulent account to Meta Platforms Inc. but Meta has not taken any action to remove the account.
If you or someone you know has fallen victim to this scam, contact your local police department as soon as possible. In addition, victims should file a report with the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Internet Crime Complaint Center HERE. |

| The Torrington Farmers Market is now OPEN for the season on Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. It will be open every Saturday rain or shine through October.
There is also a Tuesday market starting July 9 from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Both markets are located in the same location: St. Paul’s Church parking lot: 837 Charles St, Torrington. |
