As we head into the second half of June, I want to wish the graduating seniors of the Class of 2024 (Torrington High School graduating on Friday and Oliver Wolcott Technical School graduating next Tuesday) the best of luck in their future endeavors. Whether those endeavors include college, the military, trades, or the workforce, do your best and know that you always have friends and family here in Torrington.
I also want to wish all the dads out there a Happy Father's Day weekend. Take this weekend to thank your dad, honor their memory (if they've passed), or thank a father figure who has helped you along the way. I also want to acknowledge my husband, Chris, for being such a loving and supportive dad to our four children.
Next week, it looks like we'll be facing our first heatwave of the summer, with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s. Please remember to keep yourself hydrated and check on your neighbors. If you don't have air conditioning, try to find a cool place, like a library, to get out of the heat.

| From the Torrington Elks Lodge 372: Due to the threat of inclement weather Friday night, the Flag Day ceremony will now be held indoors at Coe Park. There will be no need for the public to bring their own chairs. Please spread the word that it will now be held indoors.
June 14 is Flag Day – a mandatory service for the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. In 1907, the Elks became the first fraternal body to adopt by Resolution that June 14 be designated as Flag Day in our Order. President Woodrow Wilson established a National Flag Day in 1916 by presidential proclamation. In 1949, President Harry Truman, himself an Elk, signed an act of Congress designating June 14 each year as Flag Day.
The American flag symbolizes the “land of the free and home of the brave” for all Americans. As we pay tribute by proudly displaying our American flag, let us rededicate ourselves to the ideals of patriotism and freedom.
The ceremony will commence at 6 p.m. in Coe Park, 101 Litchfield Street in Torrington, and will include city and state dignitaries and honor guard.
The public is welcome to attend and witness one of the longest-standing patriotic rituals of the Elks. |

| I had the honor of presenting Bette "Ms. Bette" Stano, a longtime (45 years!) childcare provider at Torrington Child Care Center, with an Official State Citation as she retires. She has touched so many lives during her time at TCCC and hundreds more lives she doesn't realize she's touched. She has earned the respect of her colleagues - past and present. Thank you, Bette. Enjoy your retirement! |

The 2024 Dog License renewal period runs through June 28.
Dog licenses not renewed by June 28 at 12:30 p.m. will be considered delinquent and subject to a $1 per month penalty.
Fees:
- $8.00 Altered Dog
- $19.00 Unaltered Dog
Licenses may be renewed online if rabies expiration info is current.
New Registrations may be made by mail (City Clerk's Office, 140 Main Street, Torrington, CT 06790).
To renew by mail, enclose:
- Proof from veterinarian of current rabies vaccination and spay/neutering
- Payment - Check payable to the City of Torrington
- A self-addressed, stamped envelope
Contact the City Clerk's Office if you no longer have your dog.

| Torrington Farmers Market Opens June 15 |
|
|
| The Torrington Farmers Market will be OPEN for the season beginning Saturday, June 15, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. It will be open every Saturday rain or shine through October.
There is also a Tuesday market starting July 9 from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Both markets are located in the same location: St. Paul’s Church parking lot: 837 Charles St, Torrington. |

| The fifth annual virtual CRPS Awareness Walk is being held on June 15. Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic, burning pain condition that can affect one or multiple limbs, usually after an injury. It is believed to be caused by damage/malfunction of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (the nerves that run from the spinal cord to the rest of the body). With CRPS, the brain doesn’t know that the initial injury has healed because it is still receiving pain signals. It is “stuck” in a never-ending pain cycle.
Although the walk on June 15th is virtual, members of Kelly's Crusaders are meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the Winsted DMV parking lot to walk on the Sue Grossman Greenway. The team was named for Kelly Considine, a Torrington woman who has been battling CRPS for nearly two decades.
