Expansion of Flood Compensation Program & Community Resource Fair

June 6, 2024

The state is expanding the Hartford Flood Compensation Program so that more people can apply for assistance in Hartford. I'll break down who is now eligible for those much-needed funds.

Please join the West Hartford Delegation and me at legislative town hall for a recap of what we accomplished this year. Please keep scrolling to see when and where that free event is taking place.

You are invited to the First Family Resource Fair next week in Hartford. Read below to learn how this event will help anyone who needs financial help or access to vital programs.

Hartford Flood Compensation Program Expansion

The state is expanding and increasing funding for the Hartford Flood Compensation Program. State Comptroller Sean Scanlon and House Speaker Matt Ritter announced an additional $4 million for the program, which will expand to help businesses owned by people who do not live in Hartford.

Officials say an individual business owner is eligible for up to $50,000. This expansion will give the community the support to repair their properties from flood damage.

The program started in September and originally provided reimbursement to eligible property owners in the City of Hartford who experienced flood damage on or after January 1, 2021. The Office of the State Comptroller distributed the initial allocation of $5 million to more than 335 Hartford residents.

People who live in Hartford or property owners wishing to apply must visit osc.ct.gov/HartfordFlood or Blue Hills Civic Association (Colin Bennett Building: 1229 Albany Avenue, Third Floor, Suite 306, Hartford, CT) to obtain an application.

You're Invited to a Legislative Town Hall
You are invited to learn about everything we accomplished in this year’s legislative session on Thursday, June 13 at 6:00 P.M. at Town Hall Council Chambers in West Hartford. Please join Sen. Derek Slap, Rep. Bobby Gibson, Rep. Jillian Gilchrest, Rep. Tammy Exum, Rep. Kate Farrar, and me for an end of session wrap-up to go over what bills we passed into law and what other proposed legislation we still hope to get across the finish line in the near future.
Feel free to ask questions, provide feedback, and share your goals for 2025. I hope to see you there next week!

Join Me for a Community Resource Event

I am proud to host a community event to educate the public on the free resources, programs, and services available to them. The First Family Resource Fair will be held Saturday, June 15 from 11 A.M. – 2 P.M. at Maria Reina de la Paz Church on New Britain Avenue.

Officials from hospitals, state agencies, and other organizations will share critical information that can help individuals and families. You will also meet some of my colleagues as we serve food and play music in a relaxed atmosphere.

Elmwood Cleanup
It was a pleasure to participate in the Elmwood Cleanup, which my esteemed colleague Rep. Kate Farrar organized last week in West Hartford. We rolled up our sleeves, threw on some gloves, and pilled trash into garbage bags on Saturday in various locations including a walking trail.
Thank you to everyone who joined us including the many volunteers, Elmwood Business Association, and Rep. Farrar who continues to be a leader in grassroots cleanup efforts and environmental leadership in the State House.
