Session Days Recap
We now have multiple session days a week as we race toward May 8, when the regular session ends.  Here’s a recap of the few of the bills that passed the House this week.
  • HB 5225 - AN ACT CONCERNING THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE INVASIVE PLANTS COUNCIL.
  • HB-5058 - AN ACT ADOPTING THE NURSE LICENSURE COMPACT.
  • HB 5169 - AN ACT CONCERNING THE REQUIREMENT TO INSTALL SWIMMING POOL BARRIERS
  • HB 5190 - AN ACT CONCERNING THE HISTORIC HOMES REHABILITATION TAX CREDIT.
  • HB 5197 - AN ACT CONCERNING SOCIAL WORKERS.
  • HB  5262 - AN ACT CONCERNING A SEXUAL ABUSE AND ASSAULT SURVEY.
  • HB 5382 - AN ACT CONCERNING THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE OFFICE OF THE CHILD ADVOCATE.
Region 1 Appoints New Superintendent
The Region One Boards of Education, comprising the school boards of Canaan, Cornwall, Kent, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, and Housatonic Valley Regional High School, have unanimously appointed Mrs. Melony M. Brady-Shanley as its new Superintendent of schools, effective July 1 or soon thereafter. She succeeds retiring Superintendent Lisa Carter, who retires at the close of the school year.
DOT Construction Update
CT DOT will be performing milling on Route 7 in Cornwall and Sharon on Bridge No. 0560 April 26, 2024.
 
LANE CLOSURE INFO
Motorists can expect delays and one lane alternating Traffic. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone. The regular work schedule for this project is 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Annual Roadside Cleanup -Thursday, April 18th –Sunday, April 21st

Take part in Washington Environmental Council’s Annual Roadside Cleanup Event. Trash bags will be available for pickup at Washington Town Hall and a dumpster will be out in front for receiving the collected trash. Thank you for keeping Washington beautiful! Click here to learn more. 

Virtual Speaker Series – Pollinator Pathways - Thursday, April 18th 

John Markelon, President of the Litchfield Land Trust, will share how to establish pollinator pathways in your backyard. Steep Rock Association gratefully acknowledges National Iron Bank as the primary sponsor for this conservation education program. This event is free and open to the public. Click here to learn more.

Restaurant Week Is Coming to Washington!

We are excited to share news about Washington Restaurant Week starting on Friday, April 19th! Local restaurants will be featuring special menus, fabulous tastings, live music, and special pop-up galleries on site for a chance to enjoy an arts and dining experience. Click here to learn more.
