Dear Neighbor,

We finished another productive session at the Capitol on Wednesday. Although a few of my priority bills didn’t make it through, we did some good for the working people of this state.

And once again we ensured we brought back as much state aid as possible to Middletown. Below are a few highlights:

HB 5005, An Act Expanding Paid Sick Days in the State Passes
Paid sick leave passed, and will be signed by Governor Lamont. In a few years, nearly every worker in the state will have at least five paid sick days! For a complete list of bills passed during the 2024 session, please click HERE.

HB5004, An Act Concerning The Implementation of Certain Climate Change Measures Doesn't Make It
I worked tirelessly to protect the environment. Although our big climate protection bill didn’t pass the Senate, I worked hard to ensure the Connecticut Environmental Protection Act wasn’t watered down to benefit real state developers.

Funding Headed to Middletown
Middletown made out well with funding for various projects and reimbursements, including:
  • $375,000 for a new fire training facility
  • $700,000 to keep the Middletown DCF office open
  • $400,000 for sanitation facilities at our town parks
  • $3.5 million in reimbursement that was tied up for the high school construction.
  • $900,000 for mental health and substance abuse services

This was truly a team effort, and I’m lucky to have such hardworking colleagues in Senator Matt Lesser State Senator Jan Hochadel State Representative Kai Belton.

Sincerely,

Brandon Chafee
State Representative
