Emergency Storm Response
December 18, 2023Officials at Eversource sent an emergency briefing this morning describing the efforts to restore power due to the heavy rain and strong winds in Stamford and across the state. Eversource is prioritizing emergencies, critical facilities, and blocked roads as crews continue to work around the clock to restore power.
Hazardous wind gusts have the potential to pose a safety concern for line workers and may delay the restoration of power. Crews are responding as quickly and as safely as possible. Crews are also concerned about the potential of more downed trees and limbs because some of them were weakened in last week’s storm.
In addition, coastal and inland flooding remain a concern. Eversource has a substation flooding mitigation plan in place just in case and experts are monitoring the situation very closely.
Eversource's Emergency Operations Centers in Connecticut have been open since 6 A.M. They are calling for additional crews for a potential multi-day event.
