Horseshoe Crab Preservation Bill Signing

August 14, 2023

I'm excited to share that Governor Lamont has signed H.B. 6484: An Act Concerning Certain Harvesting of Horseshoe Crabs into law. This bill, now referred to as Public Act 23-6, prohibits the hand-harvesting of horseshoe crabs or their eggs from Connecticut waters. This is a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to protect these incredible creatures and preserve their habitats.

The bill signing took place right here at Short Beach in Stratford on Wednesday. I felt incredibly grateful to have the company of countless supporters and advocates as we marked this momentous occasion for environmental conservation in our state.

This event was not only a celebration of our collective efforts but also an opportunity for us to come together as a community and reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding our natural resources. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Governor Lamont, Mayor Laura Hoydick, the Stratford delegation, my colleagues in the General Assembly, and the advocates who have played a crucial role in making this possible. This bill was passed as a direct result of your active participation and invaluable contributions.
