Rep. Delany Legislative Update 7/29

July 29, 2022

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you and your family have been well through the heat of these past Summer months.

Over these last few weeks I have been hard at work connecting with individuals in our community, taking the lead to enact legislation for our environment, and working to strengthen relationships with both our local government agencies and our international partners.

During this time I have also reflected on the love and support that I have received from my family, friends and mentors. I wouldn’t be able to accomplish anything without them, and I ask that you reflect on the loved ones in your own life as we progress further into the season.

Below you will find more detailed information on where I have been in and around the state, and on programs that I hope will be of use to you and your family.

As always, if there is anything that I can do to help, please reach out to my office or to me personally.

COMMUNITY OFFICE HOURS

I would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who stopped by my Office Hours at the Parkway Diner. It was my pleasure to speak with you and discuss policy, and community concerns!

COMMUNITY RACIAL JUSTICE SERIES

This past Saturday was the final session of our community series on police accountability. Where we shared how we have embraced, been challenged by, and discovered opportunities in the implementation the police accountability law. We also discuss the history behind the passing of the law and the way forward as a community

I would like to give a special thank you to Carmen Hughes, Stamford Police Cheif Timothy Shaw, State Senator Gary Winfield, Mr. Michael Hyman, and all of the advocates and organizations who helped organize this series.

PANAMANIAN DELEGATION

Yesterday I had the unique opportunity to meet young legislators, activists, and government officials from Panama.

It was a wonderful chance reinforce our democracy by strengthening our relationships!

NEW STREET NAMING

Earlier this week our community honored a hero to the black community in Stamford with some long-overdue recognition: The naming of Dr. Joyce Yerwood Way!

Dr. Yerwood was a trailblazer, a shining example, and a legendary leader for our Black community and our entire city! I would like to give a special thank you to mayor Simmons, Jere Eaton, the Yerwood family, and everyone who played a part in this celebration of black history!!

CONNECTICUT CLEAN AIR ACT

Last week I was honored to join Governor Lamont and my legislative colleagues as we marked the enactment of the Connecticut Clean Air Act. I am proud to have cosponsored this legislation, and I believe that this new law represents our government’s commitment to combat the climate crisis, and our journey to a more sustainable future.

Some of the provisions of this legislation include transiting our state’s fleet of vehicles onto electric vehicles, new construction of electric vehicle charging stations, the phasing in electric school buses statewide by 2040, requiring that landlords allow tenants to install electric vehicle charging stations and more.

Greenhouse gas emissions affect climate change, and climate change effects all of us. Additionally, transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions have contributed to worsening air quality leading to higher rates of illnesses like asthma. Investing in our transportation sector and encouraging wide-scale electric vehicle distribution will greatly contribute to reducing these emissions and ultimately, improving air quality.

JACKIE ROBINSON STORY WALK

Earlier this month I joined leaders and colleagues at Jackie Robinson Park to celebrate the legacy of Jackie Robinson breaking baseball's color barrier.

We also celebrated the creation of the StoryWalk: an interactive walkthrough of a children’s book that shares Jackie Robinson’s trailblazing story.

Thank you Mayor Caroline Simmons, State Representative Corey Paris, the Ferguson Library, Kenny Green, and everyone who was involved in putting together such a beautiful celebration of history and diversity.

ReEmploy CT
I am pleased to share ReEmployCT, a revamped and modern Connecticut Department of Labor online platform that streamlines services and facilitates unemployment and tax filing.

ReEmployCT offers 24/7 access for filing up to two previous weeks, filing a new claim because you reached the end of your benefit year, or if you are re-opening an existing unemployment claim due to a break in filing. For example, you were unable to work for the week due to illness.
Please make sure to:
  • Enter your user ID and password correctly. If you get locked out of your account use the lockout form to get back in.
  • Remember, your name, birth date, and Social Security number have to match what’s already in the system. This is a security feature to ensure no one else is trying to access your benefits.

Consumer Contact Center

If you have any questions, the
Consumer Contact Center is available to help. With new filers and a new system, please be patient while agents are working with other filers. It is also recommended to schedule a callback, which you can do right from the website. Use the drop-down menu to choose the topic, then pick your date and time.

I look forward to this new system making it easier than ever to receive the necessary services to file claims in the most efficient and effective manner. Please share this information with anyone who might find it useful.
