Bond Commission Approves Funding for Black Rock Little League

May 26, 2022

I'm pleased to share with you that today the State Bond Commission approved $250,000 for improvements to the Black Rock Little League fields at Ellsworth Park.

I would like to express my gratitude to Governor Lamont and members of the State Bond Commission for including this investment on the agenda, which will support the League's continued growth and our youth athletes who participate in the program.

Black Rock Little League has experienced a resurgence in participation and my hope is that these improved fields will help maintain that growth. As a volunteer coach for the league, I know first hand how these programs help foster social skills, teamwork and perseverance in our youth.

These fields have had drainage issues and poor upkeep in recent years. While the plans on how to use the funds are still being developed, I am planning to work with Black Rock Little League and our city's Parks Department to use this funding to help improve field drainage, install synthetic turf at the 2 back fields, and upgrade fencing and our dugouts.

In addition to this funding, the State Bond Commission approved $1.5 million for improvements at Home for the Brave Rehabilitation Institute and $2 million for Mount Growmore Hydroponic Farming Greenhouse and Wellness Campus to advance indoor urban agriculture and community services.
