April 8, 2022

Dear Neighbor,

I hope you and your family are well.

Below you'll find a recap about my week in the community and some usual information for you and your family.

Have a great Spring Break!

NEWS 12 INTERVIEW ON FREE BUS FARE

This last week my colleagues and I spoke to the news to spread awareness about the free statewide public transportation available to Connecticut citizens.

Thank you to Senator Marilyn Moore, Representative Robyn Porter, and Representative Anne Hughes for your leadership and fellowship. And a special shout out to News 12 for telling the story!

GOVERNOR LAMONT SIGNS BILL EXPANDING VOTER ACCESS

Today, Governor Lamont signed legislation that expands  absentee voting for residents in our state. You can read more about the bill signing here.

THE VETERANS CORNER

THE VETERANS CORNER

I officially became a member of the Stamford patriotic and special events commission, and met with the rest of the team to prepare for the Stamford memorial day parade on May 29, 2022.

NATIONAL LIBRARY WORKER DAY

Monday was National Library Workers Day and this week I spent time with the staff of the south end branch of the Stamford library to speak with Josephine Fulcher-Anderson and her staff to discuss how to better improve on the interactions between our Library and our community.

STAMFORD COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER

I met with the team of the Community Health Center in Stamford to discuss the issues impacting the health care workers in the state. It was a pleasure meeting their Regional Vice President Amy Taylor and their Operations Manager Jassenia Palma to discuss how to better serve our community.

SAVE ON SALES TAX APRIL 10 - APRIL 16

To put money back into Connecticut residents' pockets, we recently passed legislation to suspend our state's gas tax and offer free bus service through June 30. The bill also created an additional Sales Tax Free Week happening this Sunday, April 10 through Saturday, April 16. If your kids are home on spring vacation, this is a great opportunity to save on their spring and summer wardrobe.

During this one-week sales tax holiday, retail purchases of most clothing and footwear items under $100 will be exempt from Connecticut's sales tax.

Many retailers in Connecticut offer additional clothing and footwear discounts during Sales Tax Free Week, resulting in even more savings for shoppers.

You can learn more about Connecticut’s Sales Tax Free Week, including a list of tax exempt items, here.

We hope this law alleviates some of the financial pressure on consumers' wallets, and we hope to deliver more relief this session. The legislature's Appropriations and Finance Committees are expected to announce their state budget proposals this week. Keep an eye out for updates about what these proposals could mean for consumers like you and the tax relief they may offer.
