House Paves Way For Danbury School Project
October 1, 2020I'm very pleased to announce we passed legislation during a special session Wednesday that allows Danbury to gain much-needed funding for a new school construction project on the west side of the city.
H.B. 7010 makes it possible to access state resources to begin construction on a 1.2 million square foot, state-of-the-art career academy for middle and high school students in the former, vacant Matrix building that will address growing enrollment in the city.
School overcrowding is a big problem in Danbury, including at the high school, where the time between classes had to be extended because the students couldn't move. The Board of Education has proposed purchasing a commercial building for the Danbury Academy High School, which has not been done in Connecticut before.
We're pleased with the bipartisan support that the proposal of the Danbury delegation received.
