Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

June 7, 2024

On May 25th, the Town hosted its annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony in Old Wethersfield. The day continued with events and activities along Main Street.

This year’s parade theme was remembering the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. June 6, 2024 marked the anniversary of the D-Day landings along the Normandy coast during World War II. The D-Day operation brought together the land, air, and sea forces of the allied armies in an effort to defeat Nazi forces.

There were 42 groups that marched in the parade including the First Company Governor’s Foot Guard, military regiments, Wethersfield Police, Fire and Ambulance Departments, and local sports and civic organizations.
Congratulations to Parade Marshals Tony Martino and Doug Shipman who were honored for their distinguished military careers.
During Tony Martino’s 25 years in the Connecticut Air National Guard, he earned military commendations including: Air Force Presidential Unit Citation; (2) Air Force Commendation Medals; (2) Air Force Achievement Medals; Air Force Longevity Service Award; State of Connecticut Medal of Merit and State of Connecticut Long Service Medal for 25 Years of Service.
