You have an opportunity to learn more about a new study which could pave the way for long-term safety and mobility changes on I-95 in our city. Please read below to register for one of two virtual meetings this week.

While we are talking about I-95, please keep in mind that several lanes will be closed in the overnight hours for construction starting in a matter of days. Keep scrolling for more details.

Ferguson Library plans to host several intriguing events. Experts will discuss intellectual freedom in a panel discussion, and artists are invited to submit their work for an upcoming exhibit. You have to keep reading to learn more!

Learn About Study to Improve I-95 in Stamford

You are invited to learn more about a study to boost safety and replace the bridge over Metro-North Railroad on I-95 in Stamford. The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is hosting two public meetings this week on Zoom.

The first will take place Wednesday, February 21 from 6:00 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. and the second will be held the following day on Thursday, February 22 from 12:00 P.M. – 1:30 P.M.

CTDOT encourages everyone to join the meetings remotely, listen to the study, ask questions, and provide feedback.

The I-95 Stamford Planning and Environment Linkages (PEL) Study looks into I-95 between Exits 7 and 9. Researchers are interested in:

  • improving safety
  • improving mobility
  • replacing I-95 bridge over Metro-North Railroad and Myrtle Avenue

Lane Closures on I-95 in Stamford
Overnight construction and lane closures are expected to begin this week in both directions of I-95. The work will take place between Exits 8 and 5 in Stamford beginning on Thursday, February 22. CTDOT expects to complete the project on November 9, 2024.

Some northbound lanes will be shut down from 8:00 P.M. - 6:00 A.M. while some southbound lanes will be closed from 10:00 P.M. - 6:00 A.M. 

Crews will build new auxiliary lanes, resurface, and make safety improvements to I-95.

 
What Does Intellectual Freedom Mean To You?
Several leading experts will host an informative discussion on intellectual freedom at Ferguson Library next week. The event will be held on Monday, February 26 from 6:30 P.M. - 7:30 P.M. in the Main Library. If you are unable to attend in person, the event will also be available via Zoom.

Calling On Artists To Submit Their Work

The Stamford Art Association encourages artists to submit one to five pieces of work for the upcoming “Spring Awakening” exhibit at Ferguson Library. 

The deadline to submit artwork is Monday, March 18 at 11:59 P.M. Organizers will decide if they will accept any of the pieces and provide notification on March 22. Submit your artwork here. Any framed work must use plexiglass, not larger than 36' wide x 48' height framed. Framing is not mandatory.

The exhibit will be held from April 17 – June 13 on the third floor of Ferguson Library.
