Dear Neighbor,

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a free tax preparation program for individuals and families earning up to $69,000 annually. Volunteers helped provide more than $28 million in refunds and credits last year.

Join United Way this tax season as a VITA Volunteer and help families in the area with their tax credits and returns. Recruitment for volunteers is happening now through January 2026. Various training programs and certification for volunteers will take place between November 2025 and January 2026. No prior experience is needed to volunteer.

VITA sites will begin opening in mid to late January on a rolling basis, and volunteer placement happens following training and certification (for returning volunteers – self-study and re-certification).

By offering tax preparation services at no cost, United Way and VITA Volunteers are closing gaps and creating opportunities for families to achieve financial stability.

If you’re interested in serving your community, click here to register to become a VITA volunteer. If you have any questions, take a look at the graphics below and feel free to contact Taniqua Huguley at THuguley@unitedwayinc.org or 860-420-2141.
