Dear Neighbor,

Happy Friday! I want to start off by congratulating all of the high school graduates who graduated last night - I'm so proud of all that you have accomplished, and I cannot wait to see what your bright futures have in store for you!

There are two very important events this Sunday, June 16. The first is Father’s Day which, like Mother’s Day, can sometimes be a challenging day for people who have lost their fathers or never had the chance to know them, and for fathers mourning the loss of a child. I hope that however you choose to celebrate, it’s a peaceful day for you.
Second is Eid Al-Adha, the second of the two main Islamic holidays, that marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage. Sending my warmest wishes of peace, health, and happiness to the Muslim community. ☪️
In addition, Wednesday is Juneteenth, which celebrates the end of slavery in our country. This important holiday was unknown to many for years, but thanks to the tireless work of advocates, it is now rightfully recognized throughout the country.

Although Juneteenth is a celebration, we must also take time to reflect on the horrors of slavery and how it impacts us to this day. As your state representative, I will continue to push for legislation that promotes equity and inclusivity.

Fairfield will host its first-ever Juneteenth event this year on Wednesday from 11:30am-2:30pm at the Town Hall Green and Burr Mansion Tent.

PRIDE Highlight

Highlighting Connecticut’s LGBTQ+ history throughout PRIDE Month! 🏳️‍🏳️‍⚧️

Our state has always been a leader in the fight for equality and we continue to pave the way today. While there is more progress to be made, PRIDE month is a great time to look back on our progress.

Hartford HealthCare/MSK Partnership in Fairfield
I was deeply honored to attend the gathering at the Fairfield Cancer Center, currently under construction, where we announced the partnership between Hartford HealthCare and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) to enhance and revolutionize cancer care and research across our state.

Hartford HealthCare will be the first Care Partner of the MSK Care Partners program, and the Fairfield Cancer Center will provide outpatient cancer services with expert Hartford HealthCare physicians on-site.

Through this partnership Connecticut residents will receive some of the best cancer treatment in the world, and I cannot wait to see the final treatment center in our town.

Green Team Year in Review

Fairfield Public Schools's Green Team accomplished a lot this year, including:

  • Rolling out cafeteria composting to 11 schools
  • Adding three new bins for bay state textile recycling
  • Donating uneaten school lunches to Food Rescue
  • Participating in trex plastic film recycling
  • Hosting a town-wide pumpkin collection
That is only a fraction of what they've accomplished, and while they're off for the summer, their job is not done yet! If you're interested in working with this amazing group, please reach out to your school's green team.

Last Chance to See "Money Talks: The Gilded Age in Fairfield"
This weekend is the last weekend to see the Fairfield Museum and History Center's wonderful exhibition "Money Talks: The Gilded Age in Fairfield."

From the museum:

"The “Gilded Age” (1865-1912) was a period of immense growth in America known for lavish expressions of wealth and cavernous class distinctions. In 1873, Mark Twain gave the era its name with the novel “The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today.” Tremendous social and economic changes could also be found in Fairfield—changes that would not have been possible without the working class supporting the grand lifestyle of the upper classes.

This exhibition presents the industrialists, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs who summered in the Fairfield area, including P.T. Barnum, Annie Burr and Oliver Gould Jennings, Dr. Ira DeVer Warner, and Jonathan and Harriet V.S. Thorne, alongside the people who made their lifestyles possible."

The exhibit is on view through Sunday, June 16 - I highly encourage you to check it out!

I'm committed to ensuring your voice is heard. Please don't hesitate to call my office at (860) 240-8585 or email me if there's anything I can do for you. Be sure to follow @LeeperForFairfield on Facebook and Instagram to stay up-to-date on everything I'm doing at the Capitol.
