Dear Neighbor,

Special Session was a bit of a whirlwind yesterday as I brought out the 137-page emergency certification bill with an assist from Representatives Maria Horn and Jason Doucette. The bill passed in a bi-partisan fashion and not unusually, Republicans and Democrats found a lot to agree on.

Don’t forget to stop by LaSalle Deli and Market tomorrow in Collinsville for a Legislative Update from the House at 9 a.m. If you can’t make that one, I hope to see you in Avon at Beanz & Co. with Representative Tammy Exum on Wednesday, July 3rd at 9 a.m.

I had the pleasure of joining the Lisa Wexler radio show this morning to discuss the recently passed sexual assault model policy bill. This afternoon, I taped a segment for Fox61’s Sunday morning show “The Real Story” that will air this Sunday. I hope you’ll take a minute to listen to both.

July 1st we have a long list of bills that will go into effect—some from last year’s session and some from this year’s. See below for all of the details on the bills including a link to their summaries.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend,

Have a great week,

Eleni

JOIN ME FOR COFFEE IN CANTON TOMORROW MORNING
I hope you can join me for a Legislative Update tomorrow at Lasalle Market and Deli, 104 Main Street in Collinsville, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

JOIN US FOR A LEGISLATIVE UPDATE ON WEDNESDAY
State Representative Tammy Exum and I will be hosting a "Legislative Update From The House" next Wednesday, July 3rd, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Beanz and Co., 11 E. Main St., in Avon.

NEW LAWS EFFECTIVE MONDAY, JULY 1ST
Several new laws that address many issues aimed at improving our great state will become effective on July 1st.
New laws include mandatory video cameras at absentee drop boxes as part of sweeping legislation to ensure election security, allowing firearm sellers access to the arrest records of potential buyers under 21, prohibiting the selling of a person's health data without their consent, and requiring the departments of Social Services and Public Health to post a reporting tool on their websites that use a five-star system to compare nursing homes.

Additional laws include requiring social media companies to comply following a request to unpublish and delete accounts held by minors. The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) will have a mobile crisis-response vehicle available 24-7.

We also held a special session to tighten up a few loopholes, including one that avoids a motor vehicle tax increase for commercial vehicles. You can access the new laws that will go into effect on July 1st by clicking the button below.

New Laws Effective July 1st
Lastly, I would like to thank you for your calls, emails, and testimony at public hearings. They had a direct influence on these new laws. I encourage you to continue sharing your views and make your voice heard during the legislative process.

LISTEN IN: TODAY ON THE LISA WEXLER SHOW
I had an opportunity to join the show this morning along with Jane Do No More Founder Palomba to talk about PA 24-127, An Act Concerning The Criminal Justice Response To Victims Of Sexual Assault, a bill I co-sponsored, and was signed into law by the Governor earlier this month. Please click on the image below to listen.
