Lower Electric Bills

Lower electric bills are on the way! Last week, the State Bond Commission approved the release of $155 million to reduce the public benefit charges on electric bills.

This is part of bipartisan energy affordability legislation passed during the 2025 session and one step toward making energy more affordable for everyone.

Let's Talk About It: National Night Out

Willimantic Chief of Police, Fabian Silva, joined our weekly radio show to promote National Night Out, a free community event where the public can interact with our police and fire departments in a stress-free environment.

Residents met our first responders this past Tuesday at Jillson Square. The event included numerous activities for the kids including:

  • Law enforcement vehicles
  • Crime fighting technology
  • K-9 demonstrations
  • Drone demonstrations

  • Firetrucks and relevant gear
  • Free food served by first responders
  • Bounce house & face painting

Chief Silva also talked about the Willimantic Police Department's K-9 unit, which is comprised of three handlers including himself. He credits this unit with creating a strong bond with his K-9 companion and members of the community.

Route 6 Road Work

The state is developing plans for road work on Route 6 from Windham to Columbia. The project would begin at the intersection of Route 66 in Columbia and end eastbound at Route 66 (Boston Post Road) in Windham and westbound at the Route 6 on-ramp.

Crews will improve the road, treat on-ramps and off-ramps, and create detours if necessary. They will also evaluate sidewalk curbs to meet ADA compliance. Construction is expected to being in the spring of 2026.

Family & Community Expo

Windham Public Schools and the Town of Windham present the Family & Community Expo at Jillson Square on Saturday, August 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

There will be food, music, vendors, and much more, including free haircuts for kids! There will also be a FREE backpack giveaway for students on a first come-first serve basis. A child must be present to receive a backpack.
