Let's Talk About It: Windham Education
A couple of guests joined my weekly radio show to talk our public education and the upcoming election on November 4. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. at:
the VFW at 630 Valley Street
Willimantic Elks Lodge #1311 at 198 Pleasant Street
Lynne Ide, Chair of the Windham Board of Education, and Bill Sayers, Windham Town Council member, highlighted the positive momentum happening in our public schools. Windham now ranks in the top quarter in state test scores, a significant milestone that reflects the district's progress.
We also highlighted the recent recognition of Dr. Iris Gomero, Windham's new superintendent, who received a special award for her leadership. In addition, Sayers noted that Town Council unanimously approved to keep Windham Regional Technical School in town, a decision that supports continued local access to technical education.
We covered much more during the show, including the town budget and other important issues. Be sure to click the video below to listen to the full conversation.
Elected Windham officials discuss what's on the November 4 ballot.
State Funding To Support WIC
As the federal shutdown goes on, Governor Ned Lamont authorized the use of state funds to ensure the WIC program remains uninterrupted in Connecticut. There are many women and children whose only ability to obtain healthy food is through WIC. We will protect this program to ensure it can continue.
The WIC program supports low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, as well as infants and children up to age five, by providing supplemental nutritious food, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health and social services.
Community Needs Assessment Survey
Access Community Action Agency is asking for your help determining the needs of Windham and Tolland Counties by taking a Community Needs Assessment. It takes 10 minute to complete, is anonymous, and helps inform the agency of its strategic direction moving forward.
The goal is to provide services that meet the needs of the individuals, families, and the rest of the community.
The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS) is alerting everyone of a new scam where criminals impersonate the DRS with fraudulent text messages. They claim that you are owed a tax refund and must provide banking and other information to receive the money.
The DRS will NEVER send taxpayers a text message or try to get your personal information via text. If you know of any other tax-related scams, please contact DRS by clicking here to complete a referral form on the agency’s website.
Taxpayers with questions are encouraged to reach DRS at DRS@ct.gov or by calling (860) 297-5962, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
