$40M for Special Ed & Join Me at Education Forum

February 26, 2025

Connecticut remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting special education by approving $40 million in immediate funding. I'll break down how much Windham will receive and why the timing is so important.

Speaking of education, you're invited to join me on Thursday for an important conversation about our education laws and what we're hoping to accomplish in 2025. Keep scrolling to see where the event is taking place.

$40 Million for Special Education Funding

On Monday, I was proud to vote for a bill allocating $40 million in funding to special education, giving immediate support to more than 140 school districts in our state. Windham Public Schools will receive approximately $145,000 as part of this funding, which will help ensure students receive the specialized support they need to thrive.

My colleagues and I have heard from cities and towns across Connecticut that special education costs are squeezing local budgets. Now is the time to act, as Boards of Education across the state are actively developing their budgets.

While the legislature considers long-term solutions for our special education system, we recognized our school districts needed immediate assistance. Our ultimate goal is to achieve long-term, systemic reform to ensure sustainable funding in this arena.

Special education remains is a legislative priority, and we will continue looking for solutions to lower costs, strengthen services, and provide more financial support for our education system.

Join Me at a Windham Education Forum
Please join my colleagues, various local school officials, and me tomorrow for an important discussion about Connecticut’s current education laws and proposed legislation for this year’s session. The event will take place on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Windham High School.

We are fortunate to have Rep. Maryan Khan, the Co-Chair of the Select Committee on Special Education, join us to provide a deep dive regarding our special needs student population. We will also discuss how the state funds the education opportunities that are needed to address our students’ different learning styles.

I would like to thank our Windham Board of Education, teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff for their diligence and hard work to help our students. Your work is invaluable!
