Dear Neighbor,

On Wednesday, the Connecticut Chapter of the Social Welfare Action Alliance and I hosted the third-annual People's Forum on what the priorities are for this session, especially when so many people are being threatened and harmed by the administration in Washington.

Now is the time to protect our most vulnerable populations, including those who are incarcerated, the LGBTQ+ communities, and other underserved people.

Kencrest Tour

Honored to tour one of our local nonprofit group homes, Kencrest, last week.

These nonprofit community-based services for the I/DD community REQUIRE more funding from the state to provide the care and supports to our high needs neighbors, and I am fighting for an equitable budget that takes care of the workers that take care of our friends and family members.

Battle to Ban Rodenticides

A big shout out to Redding resident Victor DeMasi, of Butterflies in My Backyard, for his support (and costume) for to raise awareness about the harmful effects of second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides on Connecticut’s wildlife and public health.

Victor has been a tremendous advocate and ally for increasing environmental protections in the state for wildlife and people alike.

Severe Cold Weather Protocol in Effect

Governor Ned Lamont announced last week that the state’s severe cold weather protocol will be in effect until noon on Saturday, Feb. 22. During this time, temperatures are expected to drop to the single-digits.

While activated, the protocol initiates a series of actions to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the severe cold.
