Hurricane Melissa Emergency Response Meeting on 10/29

October 28, 2025

As we watch from afar, Hurricane Melissa, a powerful Category 5 hurricane, has made landfall near New Hope, Jamaica. While Jamaica is the hurricane's primary target, it is also expected to impact Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and flooding.

It's easy to feel powerless, unable to stop the wrath of Mother Nature. But we can help. And that help starts Wednesday night.

The West Indian Social Club, 3340 Main Street in Hartford, is hosting a Community Emergency Response Meeting on Wednesday, October 29, at 7 p.m. Please come and share your ideas on how we can help and support those impacted by Hurricane Melissa.

The meeting agenda includes:

  • Assessing potential and confirmed damages
  • Identify the immediate and long-term needs of the affected regions
  • Organize a community task force to coordinate support and relief efforts

Please keep the people of these countries, as well as others who are bracing for impact, in your thoughts and prayers.
