Update on Raymark site in Stratford

April 28, 2020

The project manager of the Raymark consolidation clean-up site has provided an update on where the project currently stands.

According to James DiLorenzo, superfund project manager for the site:

"This remedy requires the construction of a highway-style barrier and haul road prior to the movement of Raymark Waste from Ferry Creek and various properties around Stratford through the former Contract Plating property to the former ballfield located on Frog Pond Lane. The waste will be consolidated with an existing 100,000 cubic yards of Raymark Waste already buried at the ball field and covered with a permanent cap to prevent direct exposure and storm water infiltration.

The landscaper began planting along the residential side of Barrier no. 1 (behind Cottage Place). Plantings will include a mix of pine trees, leafy trees and shrubs. Please see the attached photos of some of plants already installed. A section of Barrier No. 1 remains open to allow access by the landscaper.

Zoppo continued to place the fence posts along barrier no2. There’s significant bedrock in the last section of Barrier no. 2 as it approaches Barrier no. 1, so progress is much slower here. As of Wednesday, almost all of the 119 posts have been installed.

Work expected the week of April 27th

The landscaper is expected to complete planting a mix of birch and pine trees, and shrubs along the residential facing side of Barrier No.1. The landscaper will also begin placing plantings along a portion of Barrier no. 2. Zoppo will complete setting the fence posts for Barrier no.2.

Tantara will begin bringing in clean fill material to start construction of the haul road on the former Contract Plating property."
