Bloomfield Native Dwight Freeney named Pro Football Hall of Fame Finalist

January 2, 2024

Bloomfield native Dwight Freeney was named a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame for a second straight year. Freeney is one of 15 finalists for the Class of 2024, which will be announced on Thursday, Feb. 8, prior to the Super Bowl.

Freeney played in the NFL for 16 seasons, beginning in 2002 and retiring in 2017. He is a seven-time Pro Bowler, who played his first 11 years with the Indianapolis Colts, helping them win Super Bowl XL.

Freeney's journey began right here at Bloomfield High School. I had the distinct honor to coach Dwight - I was the Warhawks' defensive coordinator when the team won a state title in 1997, the first of three straight for Bloomfield.  Following his success prep career, he went on to play at Syracuse University, where he was an All-American and ultimately drafted 11th overall in the NFL Draft
