Passing HB 5001 to Help Seniors

April 29, 2024

Today, we were able to pass HB 5001 out of the House to help out CT seniors, a measure I have been working on with my Aging Committee Chair Jane Garibay since the beginning of the session.

I joined her, Speaker Matt Ritter, Majority Leader Jason Rojas, and members of both Senate Democrats and House Republicans, showing how seriously the legislature took this bipartisan issue.

As the elderly population steadily grows, there is an urgency to provide resources and assistance to this community.

HB 5001, which passed with bipartisan support, protects and prioritizes elderly residents in our state. This bill:

  • Makes it easier for seniors to age in place
  • Creates a nursing home database, providing consumers with an easy and reliable way to compare locations around the state
  • Establishes incentives to encourage nursing homes to improve care
Members of the AARP and Alzheimer's Association joined Rep. Garibay and I for a moment on the House Floor to show their support. We all have seniors in our families that we care for, and seeing how people of all ages showed up to support this bill shows just how much these measures affect us all.
I am glad to support a bill that gives seniors the attention and resources that they deserve. The bill now moves to the Senate for its consideration.
