June 7, 2024

Seniors will have more access to resources and assistance after the governor signed a new bill into law. I'll break down how that legislation will allow our elderly population to age with dignity.

Stamford is hosting a wide range of events for Pride Month to empower our LGBTQ+ community. Keep scrolling to get a breakdown of all the fun gatherings!

The state is allocating 10 million dollars to build, improve, and expand multi-use trails. Please read below to find out how much of that funding is coming to Stamford.

Here are the sections of today's email:

  • State Funding for Trails
  • Stamford Juneteenth Celebration

Support for our Seniors
Governor Ned Lamont signed a House Democrats priority bill into law supporting our seniors. House Bill 5001 allows residents to grow old with grace and dignity.

This bill:

  • Makes it easier for seniors to age in place
  • Creates a nursing home database, providing consumers with an easy and reliable way to compare locations around the state
  • Establishes incentives to encourage nursing homes to improve care

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🏳️‍⚧️

Let's kick off June by celebrating love, diversity, and the incredible contributions of the LGBTQ+ community.

There will be many events celebrating Pride across the city. Please take a look at the schedule below and CLICK HERE to learn more about each gathering.

Pride Month commemorates years of struggle for civil rights and the ongoing pursuit of equal justice under the law for the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as their accomplishments. It is celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan.

Love one another. Protect one another. Speak up for your rights. And have a wonderful and safe Pride month.

Gun Violence Awareness Day & Wear Orange Weekend

Every day, more than 120 people in the United States are killed with guns, twice as many are shot and wounded and countless others are impacted by acts of gun violence.

The gun homicide rate in the U.S. is 26 times higher than that of other developed countries, but research shows that common-sense public safety laws can reduce gun violence and save lives.

Please wear orange this weekend to help raise Gun Violence Awareness!🧡 ~ And visit the Wear Orange coalition website for more: wearorange.org.

State Funding for Trails
Stamford will receive $223,600 in state grants to support the preliminary design of the Weed Avenue multi-use trail. The improvements will increase walkability, safety, and mobility in our city.
This is part of a $10 million statewide investment to improve, build, and expand recreational trails. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is administering the grants through the Connecticut Recreational Trails Grant program.

Stamford Juneteenth Celebration
The community is invited to the city's second annual Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 15. The event kicks off with a flag raising at 11:30 A.M. at the City of Stamford Government Center. NBA legend John Starks will serve as Grand Marshal, and the crowd will commemorate freedom and the advancement of black people in the United States.
Starks will then lead a parade at noon in Mill River Park where there will be an art show, double Dutch tournament, local vendors, children's activities and entertainment with special guest celebrity radio personality, DJ/Producer DJ Clue.

The event is free, but you are encouraged to register in advance by clicking here.
