Millions in Funding Coming to Stamford

May 31, 2024
I helped secure millions of dollars in critical funding for our city. I'll break down how these grants will support children, families, and non-profits.

Drivers will experience delays downtown at night for road work. Please keep scrolling to see exactly when and where to expect lane closures.

The governor just signed a bill into law expanding paid sick days for many more hard-working individuals in our state. I'll dig deeper into how the law works.

Bringing Funding to Stamford

As your State Representative, I have worked tirelessly to bring vital funding to Stamford to support our children, families, and neighborhoods. I helped secure millions for our students and schools, ensuring they have access to the resources and opportunities necessary for a high-quality education. This funding will lead to the improvement of school facilities and the provision of essential supplies and technology to our classrooms.

Additionally, I have advocated for and obtained substantial financial support for vital organizations that serve our community. There are too many to list them all, but the list includes Building One Community, which aims to advance the successful integration of immigrants and their families. Mill River Collaborative will continue to be dedicated to creating and sustaining a world-class park in the heart of downtown Stamford.

INTEMPO will provide kids with music education in a beautiful, brand-new space on Franklin Street. And Camp Sound Waters will offer children hands-on discovery, adventure, and skill-building on Long Island Sound.

By directing funds to these organizations, we are able to address the diverse needs of our residents, fostering a stronger, more resilient community.

Expect Slowdowns Downtown

Drivers should expect delays for night time road work at Route 1 (Tresser Boulevard) and Route 137 (Washington Boulevard) in Stamford. Crews will begin paving the night of Tuesday, June 4 through the morning of Friday, June 7.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation says there will be lane closures and alternative traffic patterns from 8:00 P.M. to 5:00 A.M. during the road work schedule.

Crews already completed the milling portion of the project this week.

Paid Sick Days

Workers should never have to choose between their health and their jobs. This legislation signed by Governor Lamont expands this coverage to include more workers in two ways:

Beginning January 1, 2025, these laws will apply to workers of nearly every occupation, not just those in retail and service jobs. (Seasonal employees and other certain temporary workers are exempt).

The threshold for coverage will be lowered in three phases, beginning with employers that have at least 25 employees on January 1, 2025, those with at least 11 employees beginning January 1, 2026, and those with at least one employee beginning January 1, 2027.
