Extreme Hot Weather Protocol
Cooling centers, pools, and splash parks are open as we enter the fourth consecutive day of an extreme hot weather protocol. It has been brutally hot and humid since Tuesday, and we all want to ensure that our most vulnerable are protected. The protocol will remain in effect through Sunday, June 23 at 12 P.M.

Call 2-1-1 or visit 211ct.org if you do not have air conditioning or a cool place to stay. State agencies, municipalities, and other partners coordinate with the United Way 2-1-1 to make sure that information regarding cooling centers is available statewide, providing a location to get some relief.

Parent Leadership Training Graduation
I was happy to watch as more than 20 people graduated from the Parent Leadership Training Institute in Stamford. The program seeks to teach community members how to become leading advocates for all children. The cornerstones of the program are respect, validation, and a belief that when the tools of democracy are understood, the public will actively engage in civic life.

I'm so proud of these individuals for taking the time out of their busy lives to be role models in our community. Their hard work will enrich the lives of our youth and our city as a whole. Thank you!

The 20-week program includes a community-building retreat, instructional courses on community, personal development, and parent leadership, a civics course on politics, policy, and media, as well as a cumulative final community project.

Celebrating Juneteenth

I had a great time celebrating Juneteenth with the community last week. The holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and honors the incredible contributions of the Black community. It was amazing to see so many people of different ages and backgrounds coming together for a common cause.

Juneteenth is important because it reminds us of what African Americans had to endure. The holiday also allows each generation to reflect on what more there is to do in order to progress and develop as a country. Juneteenth should be a rallying call for all of us to think about the meaning of freedom.

Delicious Meal at Fairgate Farm
I met up with and shared a delicious plate with my friends at Fairgate Farm! Everything sold there is cultivated and produced in Connecticut with most of it grown on the farm. Fresh fruit, vegetables, and flowers are available to the community at an affordable price.

The farmers’ market at Fairgate Farm is held every Thursday from 11 A.M. – 2 P.M. and Saturday from 9 A.M. – 1 P.M. through October. The farm continues to grow with the help of countless volunteers at 129 Stillwater Avenue on the west side of Stamford.

Fairgate Farm accepts cash, credit/debit cards, and SNAP EBT. It also doubles SNAP dollars, so cardholders automatically get 50% off their total for groceries. I encourage you to stop by for delicious, local food and to support the community!
