Hamden Receives Brownfield Grant

February 21, 2017

Thanks to the efforts of Hamden’s delegation and the Governor, Hamden has been awarded a $600,000 grant as part of a 14 town remediation and brownfield revitalization program.

The $600,000 grant to the Hamden Economic Development Corporation is for abatement and demolition of a portion of the Michael J. Whalen Middle School at 560 Newhall Street to prepare the site for private mixed-use redevelopment.

This grant will allow for the vacant Middle School to be transformed into a development that has a real long-term potential benefit for the district. While I disagree with much of the current budget, I want to thank the governor for the funds needed for transforming this site as it will spur vibrant new economic developments, new investments and new jobs for residents in the community.
