Dear Neighor,
The legislature continues to make progress on our legislative proposals. This week we returned to full session in the House, and committees continues to meet to advance referred bills.
- Public safety / quality of life: The House passed HB 5313, Concerning Street Takeovers. This measure continues our work to address the threat to safety of dirt bikes and permits seizing of illegal vehicles. My earlier work to increase fines was important, but not enough.
- The Environment Committee voted out HB 5484, Concerning Vegetation Management, initiated by the Transportation Committee. I cosponsored this because many of you contacted me to object to aggressive tree removal by the Department of Transportation, but the Environment Committee had no authority. This legislation begins a process of cooperation with DOT and joint oversight over vegetation management.
- I have not reported on budget because our work was an internal document, and we awaited revenue due April 15. The final document will require an agreement with the executive branch because of the spending cap.
Please stay tuned for future updates. |
