Happy Fourth of July!

Let's celebrate our freedom and democracy today, honor our great history, and give thanks to those brave men and women who protect our freedom and maintain our way of life.

Fireworks are a Fourth of July staple, but make sure that everyone is handling them safely and not disrupting the community order and peace.

Fourth of July is a time to celebrate our democracy, so let's take a look at some of the new laws that will take effect starting July 1. These new laws will ensure the safety of everyone in our community, one of the most important functions of our legislature.

New laws include mandatory video cameras at absentee drop boxes as part of sweeping legislation to ensure election security, prohibiting the selling of a person's health data without their consent, and requiring the departments of Social Services and Public Health to post a reporting tool on their websites that use a five-star system to compare nursing homes.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your calls, emails, and testimony at public hearings. They had a direct influence on these new laws. I encourage you to continue sharing your views and make your voice heard during the legislative process. It's you that makes democracy possible.

I hope everyone is able to celebrate our independence with their families. That's what makes this country great! Happy Independence Day everyone!
