The Fallen Officer Fund Has Been Signed Into Law

May 24, 2024

There's some great news for the 74th! The Governor has signed the Fallen Officer Fund into law. Our police officers risk their lives everyday to make sure our community can be safe, so we should be doing everything we can to support them and their families. The police officers I serve with are some of the bravest people I know, and I'm glad we can officially support their daily sacrifices.

This bill was a priority for the Public Safety and Security Committee. As the Vice Chair of this committee, I cosponsored the bill and helped my colleagues get it past the finish line, so seeing this finally become law to help the families of fallen officers feels like a great achievement of the session.

The Fallen Officer Fund will:

✅Provide $100,000 to the surviving family members or beneficiaries of any Connecticut local or state police officer killed in the line of duty or who sustained injuries that were the direct and proximate cause of the officer's death.
✅Allow the surviving family members of police officers killed in the line of duty who were covered by that officer’s health insurance at the time of their death to remain on that coverage for up to five years.
