Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As we navigate through the new season, it's important to look out for one another. With summer bringing hot weather and the occasional heat wave, it's essential to keep a close eye on our young children, the elderly, and our pets. Don't forget, there are various places where you can seek respite, such as the library or local stores.

100 Most Influential Blacks in CT
I am honored to share that the the CT NAACP has named me one of the 100 most influential blacks in Connecticut. This is a tremendous honor and I am proud to be included on a list full of talented, brilliant and hard working individuals.

Paid Sick Leave Signed into Law
Workers should never have to choose between their health and their jobs. This legislation signed by Governor Lamont expands this coverage to include more workers in two ways:
  • Beginning January 1, 2025, these laws will apply to workers of nearly every occupation, not just those in retail and service jobs. (Seasonal employees and other certain temporary workers are exempt.)
  • The threshold for coverage will be lowered in three phases, beginning with employers that have at least 25 employees on January 1, 2025; those with at least 11 employees beginning January 1, 2026; and those with at least one employee beginning January 1, 2027.

This legislation promotes better public health outcomes while allowing workers to care for themselves or a sick loved one without adding financial strain.

Fallen Officer Memorial Fund
Connecticut law enforcement officers have our backs every day. We owe it to them to support their families and stand by them. From now on, if a police officer or trooper is killed in the line of duty in our state, this fund will offer immediate support to their family.
The Fallen Officer Fund will:
  • Provide $100,000 to the surviving family members or beneficiaries of any Connecticut local or state police officer killed in the line of duty or who sustained injuries that were the direct and proximate cause of the officer's death.

Allow the surviving family members of police officers killed in the line of duty who were covered by that officer’s health insurance at the time of their death to remain on that coverage for up to five years.

Funding for Stamford

Stamford is receiving $223,608 in state grants through the Connecticut Recreational Trails Grant program. This award will be used to support the preliminary design of the Weed Avenue multi-use trail, enhancing walkability, safety, and mobility in our city.
This forms a crucial segment of a $10 million statewide investment aimed at enhancing, constructing, and extending recreational trails. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is overseeing the allocation of grants through the Connecticut Recreational Trails Grant program.
