Rep. D’Agostino Welcomes $600,000 Grant for Hamden Announced By The Governor

February 21, 2017

I am pleased to have worked with the Governor’s office to secure a $600,000 grant to the Hamden Economic Development Corporation is for abatement and demolition of a portion of the Michael J. Whalen Middle School at 560 Newhall Street to prepare the site for private mixed-use redevelopment. The old Middle School has been vacant for too long and this grant will allow the town to move forward with the economic development of southern Hamden, benefitting the entire neighborhood and the town as a whole. We expect the development to include retail and community space, as well as affordable housing.

I want to thank Governor Malloy for this grant and ensuring that Hamden will receive a portion of the $6.9 million allocated for his statewide remediation and brownfield clean-up program.
