Borer joins behavioral health roundtable discussion

September 14, 2018

I was happy to join colleagues, local and state officials, consumers, advocates and community activists last week for a discussion about how individuals in the state are struggling with behavioral health-related issues and substance use disorders.

The event was held at the APT Foundation in West Haven with several partners sponsoring the roundtable discussion including: The CT Community Nonprofit Alliance, Keep the Promise Coalition, Mental Health Connecticut and NAMI Connecticut.

As vice chair of the Public Health Committee, I have had the opportunity to hear from professionals, advocates and families on how precarious this issue has become, and can attest to the importance of having open conversations as often as we can to promote healthy choices among family and friends.

We certainly have many challenges ahead as we continue to battle the opioid epidemic and substance abuse that includes funding, education and awareness. That’s why I am committed to working with my colleagues in the legislature to find solutions to improve the lives of those afflicted with this crisis.
