Remembering 9/11

September 11, 2025

As anyone old enough to remember is likely to say, I know exactly where I was the morning of Sept. 11, 2001. I can just as clearly recall who was with me, and I can still feel how I felt, as if it happened only yesterday. Born in New York City, and living in Boston at the time, I watched helplessly as so many people I knew suffered through unimaginable losses in both cities and in their surrounding communities. I had also just become a mom for the first time, and the fear I felt for my daughter and the world I had brought her into in the days and weeks that followed was palpable. Not only did that horrific event change policy in our country and around the world, but it also understandably changed us, not only as individuals but also as communities.

September 11th is a solemn day of remembrance for our nation. As we each reflect on our own memories of the tragic events of that morning, we honor the lives lost, the families and communities forever changed, and the bravery of first responders who acted with courage in the face of unimaginable danger. It is also a reminder of our shared responsibility to support one another in times of hardship, to stand resilient as neighbors, and to work toward a safer and more compassionate future for all.
