Middletown's 2nd Annual Women's HERStory Brunch & Reception, hosted by me and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, which will be held this Saturday at Cross Street Church in Middletown from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., has reached full capacity!

I wanted to bring to your attention two exciting events I am participating in, and I hope you will join me - both have a Women's History Month focus.

I was proud to vote for a bill this week allocating $40 million in funding to special education, giving immediate support to more than 140 school districts in our state, and helping to provide the highest quality education for our students! Scroll down for more details.

Happy Black History Month!

This is a time to honor, celebrate, and recognize the achievements, contributions, and resilience of Black people throughout history. Remember, Black History is American History. Let’s reflect, learn, and continue striving for equality and justice for all!

Thursday was National Maternal Health Awareness Day in Connecticut. The maternal mortality rate in this country is high, especially for women of color, and it must be addressed. This is an issue close to my heart. I hosted a press conference to discuss it, and to introduce the Black Maternal and Infant Health Caucus, of which I am Chair.

We're set to experience a period of brutally frigid conditions over the coming days. The state’s severe cold weather protocol will go into effect beginning at 6 p.m. on Sunday and remain in effect through noon on Friday, January, 24th
