I recently visited the Middlesex County CT NAACP Girls Reading Program, which read My Hair, My Crown, and learned braiding techniques from the talented India West.
Watching them braid their mannequins brought me right back to my own childhood, a home full of braiders, culture, and love.
My mother still braids my hair to this day.
Moments like this remind me why the CROWN Act matters so much in Connecticut.
Our hair is identity, culture, and confidence, and our girls deserve to show up fully as themselves. |
