Dear Neighbor,
Father’s Day is this Sunday, and like Mother’s Day, this can sometimes be a challenging day for people who have lost their fathers or never had the chance to know them, and for fathers mourning the loss of a child. I hope that however you choose to celebrate, it’s a peaceful day for you.

In addition, Wednesday is Juneteenth, which celebrates the end of slavery in our country. This important holiday was unknown to many for years, but thanks to the tireless work of advocates, it is now rightfully recognized throughout the country.

Although Juneteenth is a celebration, we must also take time to reflect on the horrors of slavery and how it impacts us to this day. As your state representative, I will continue to push for legislation that promotes equity and inclusivity.

A reminder that the Connecticut Department of Transportation will be performing a milling and resurfacing project on Route 113 in Bridgeport and Stratford starting this Sunday, June 16.

The milling segment of the project is expected to be performed Sunday, June 16 through Wednesday, June 19, and the resurfacing segment of this project is expected to be performed Sunday, June 23 through Friday, June 28.

Motorists can expect lane closures on Route 113 (Hollister Avenue/Lordship Blvd.) from Orange Street in Bridgeport to Woodend Road Stratford.  The I-95 northbound Exit 30 off-ramp may be closed temporarily for a few hours during the milling and resurfacing portion of this project. The detour will be to get off I-95 northbound Exit 31 (Honeyspot Road), take a left at the end of the ramp, then take another left onto I-95 southbound, then get off Exit 30 (Surf Ave). Take a left at the end of the ramp which will take you to Lordship Boulevard. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone. The night work schedule for this project is 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.

If applicable, I encourage you to apply for the Aspiring Educators Diversity Scholarship Program. This program is available for diverse students who graduated from a public high school in an Alliance School District - which the Bridgeport School District is a part of!

Highlighting Connecticut’s LGBTQ+ history throughout PRIDE Month!

Our state has always been a leader in the fight for equality and we continue to pave the way today. While there is more progress to be made, PRIDE month is a great time to look back on our progress.
