BPRC Leaders' Statement on National School Walkout demonstrations

Chair of the legislature’s Black and Puerto Rican Caucus State Representative Christopher Rosario (D-Bridgeport) and Vice-Chair, State Representative Brandon McGee (D-Hartford/Windsor) issued the following statement about today’s National School Walkout demonstrations.

“Today, students across our nation are participating in a National School Walkout in remembrance of the latest 17 victims at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida and are using their collective voices to demand action from congress as it relates to gun violence. We, as leaders of the legislature’s Black and Puerto Rico Caucus, stand in solidarity with each and every one of them and commend their courage, spirit and efforts to protest gun violence in our schools in urban and suburban communities. Gun violence has taken too many precious lives from us too early and it is our duty to keep our communities safe. We must pay attention to those unified voices for change and push towards an open debate on this issue.”
