Hamden Receives Brownfield Grant

February 21, 2017

Thanks to the efforts of Hamden’s delegation and the Governor, Hamden has been awarded a $600,000 grant as part of a 14 town remediation and brownfield revitalization program.

The $600,000 grant to the Hamden Economic Development Corporation is for abatement and demolition of a portion of the Michael J. Whalen Middle School at 560 Newhall Street to prepare the site for private mixed-use redevelopment.

One of the ways to spur the economy and create jobs is transform and remediate brown field sites into something that will benefit the community. I am very thankful that Hamden has received this grant as it will prepare the long vacated middle school to be turned into a mixed used development that will prove useful to the town.
