Social Work Students Training Day

October 30, 2015

State Rep. Rick Lopes (D-New Britain, Newington) addressed over one hundred social work students at the National Association of Social Workers Lobby Day Training at the capitol.

"I am very passionate about getting new people involved in civic activities – it is important that every Connecticut resident feels comfortable about reaching out to talk to legislators such as me about the issues that are important in our state and communities," Rep. Lopes said.

"The goal of the skill-building training was to emphasize the connection between the legislative work that is done at the Capitol and the work that is done every day by social workers. It is important that Social workers see this connection and use it to their advantage to affect positive changes."

Lopes, who holds a Master's Degree in Social Work, joined legislative colleagues at the state capitol to answer questions and exchange ideas as part of the overall program. Lopes encouraged students to reach out to elected officials when working to address social issues facing Connecticut.
