Tuesday was a big day for me professionally, but even bigger for mothers, fathers, and families.
HB7102, An Act Concerning Maternal and Infant Health Care, which expands perinatal mental health services and strengthens family support, including fatherhood engagement, and HB 7214, An Act Concerning Maternal Health, which improves hospital transparency and accountability in maternal care are two bills I proudly championed as Chair of Connecticut’s Black Maternal and Infant Health Caucus, and led passage of the transformative legislation in both chambers during the 2025 legislative session.
Both bills were officially signed into law during a press conference at the Community Health Center in Middletown by Governor Lamont. I thank the governor for his support!
Ensuring the health and well-being of pregnant and birthing people is one of the most powerful investments a state can make. Healthy moms lead to healthy babies, healthy families, and stronger communities.
Supporting maternal health doesn’t start in the delivery room; it begins with access to care, education, and resources long before pregnancy. Our policies must reflect that. I think HB7102 and HB7214 are a good start.
