Talking Student Debt At National Panel

December 1, 2015

The Center for American Progress invited me to speak on a student debt panel at their event, “Exploring the Geography of Student Debt: How State and Municipalities Can Act.”

I talked about the ways Connecticut is leading the nation on the issue of student loan debt. As Chair of the Banking Committee, I championed legislation that established the country’s first Student Loan Bill of Rights. Going forward it is important that we continue to take action to protect the public from predatory lenders and predatory for profit colleges.

I was also glad to be on hand for the release of a new tool for people to look at the impact of student debt on every zip code in the United States.
