Tesla Seeks Direct Lane to Consumers

February 9, 2016

Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff was joined by House Transportation Committee Chair Tony Guerra and Jim Chen from Tesla Motors to announce proposed legislation that permits manufacturers of electric vehicles to sell directly to consumers in Connecticut. Senate Bill 3, An Act Concerning the Licensing of New and Used Car Dealers would allow consumers to purchase electric cars without leaving the state.

We need to embrace companies that express a sincere desire to invest and create jobs in Connecticut. Telsa is an innovative company that will revolutionize transportation in the coming century. I’m proud to be a part of the effort that will allow Tesla in our state and create jobs.

This year’s bill (SB 3), which is not limited to Tesla, would allow electric car companies that do not already have a physical presence in the state to have up to three dealerships in Connecticut.

Currently, there are more than 1,000 Tesla owners in the state.
