Happy Fourth of July & Support for Disabled Veterans

July 2, 2024

July 4th is just around the corner, and that means it's time to fire up the grills, hit the beach, and spend time with loved ones. Keep in mind the use of fireworks, except for sparkers and fountains, is illegal. Please scroll down to watch a video discussing the dangers of fireworks.

The governor signed a bill into law supporting our disabled veterans. I'll break down how this legislation will help those who put their lives on the line for our freedoms.

Here are the sections of today's email:

Happy Fourth of July!

We're only a few days from the Fourth of July! It's a time to express our American pride, reflect on our history, and celebrate our freedoms and cultural heritage with family and friends.

I wish you all a safe, happy, and sparkling Independence Day!

Keep in mind that fireworks are not allowed by law in Connecticut for use by non-professional, non-licensed users. Sparklers and fountains, which technically are not considered fireworks, may be sold, but may not legally be sold to, or used by persons younger than 16. Please be safe!

Connecticut State Police remind everyone to use caution.

CT State Police say fireworks should be left to the professionals.

Bill Signed into Law Supporting Disabled Veterans

Governor Lamont signed a house bill into law, which I co-sponsored, that supports veterans who have been disabled during service. This is a small way to say, “thank you."

Public Act 24-26 establishes a property tax exemption for Veterans who have a service-connected permanent and total disability rating as determined by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The exemption will be used for a home that is a primary residence, but if a qualified Veteran does not own a home, the exemption will apply to a single motor vehicle that they own.

More than 1,200 veterans in Connecticut are totally and permanently disabled as a result of their service. These brave men and women have spent their lives fighting to protect our freedoms. It is our turn to support them when they come home with disabilities to ensure they live with dignity and without fear of losing their home.

Secure Your Load
Unsecured loads are dangerous, illegal, expensive, and preventable. As we take more beach and camping trips, keep these steps in mind!
