Affordable Heat Pumps & Road Work on I-95

July 24, 2024

Our state is receiving funding to expand the use of affordable electric heat pumps. I'll break down how this technology will help the environment while saving you money.

There will be slowdowns on I-95 in Stamford for road work. Please read below to find out exactly where and when you can expect to deal with lane closures and a detour.

I'm sharing information on behalf of the Stamford Police Department Harbor Unit to help reach its goal of getting new safety equipment. They're requesting donations to buy a new jet ski. I'll explain how it will improve your safety on the water.

Investing in Affordable Electric Heat Pumps

Connecticut will get up to $100 million to speed up the process of getting more affordable electric heat pumps installed throughout the state. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is awarding a total of $450 million to a coalition of states, including Connecticut, known as the New England Heat Pump Accelerator Coalition. The goal is to increase the number of cold-climate air-source heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and ground source heat pumps in single-family and multi-family homes. These heat pumps reduce emissions, provide significant health benefits, and deliver energy savings.

The coalition will work collaboratively to promote the development of heat pump skill sets in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and electrical workforce. It also intends to invest about 50% of the benefits in historically overburdened and underserved communities, such as Stamford.

Additionally, the coalition will partner with heat pump manufacturers, distributors, and installers to increase the availability of air-source and ground-source heat pumps while lowering equipment and installation costs for consumers. This partnership will include significant investment in workforce training, ensuring installers will have access to good-paying careers while delivering more efficient heating and cooling solutions.

Police Ask for Donations to Improve Public Safety
The Stamford Police Department Harbor Unit is encouraging the community to donate funds to improve public safety on the water. The unit would like to purchase a new jet ski and rescue sled, which would provide officers with a more agile response on Long Island Sound. The new equipment would improve public safety on the water and quality of life for our Stamford residents.
The Stamford Police Foundation is spearheading this crowdfunding effort. Organizers say they are 70% toward the goal. If you would like to learn more or donate, CLICK HERE.

I'm delighted to learn there has been a sharp rise in successful climate lawsuits filed against companies around the globe. According to Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and Environment, more companies are getting sued for misrepresenting their progress toward environmental targets. The Guardian published a story highlighting the recent trend in climate lawsuits.
