DRS Unilaterally Expanded The Sales Tax

September 18, 2019

We were successful in encouraging the Lamont Administration to rethink the state Department of Revenue Services’ (DRS) policy that unilaterally expanded the sales tax. Governor Lamont has asked DRS and OPM to better align DRS’s interpretation with the intent of our state budget.

This week, I joined Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz and House Majority Leader Matt Ritter in expressing my displeasure with the DRS interpretation of the sales tax to Commissioner Scott Jackson.

Read our full letter to the Commissioner here.

I’m glad to see Governor Lamont ordered DRS and the Office of Policy and Management to do a review of the proposal – we need to get this fixed.
