Opening Day 2019

January 9, 2019

State Representative Joe de la Cruz (D-Groton, New London) took the oath of office today at the State Capitol where he will continue representing his constituents in the 41st House District.

“Participating in the legislative process is a humbling experience and I’m thankful for the chance to serve my district in the historic House chambers,” said de la Cruz. “I expect 2019 to be a productive year with progress made on growing the economy, training our young people for good paying jobs, raising the minimum wage, funding for education, addressing the state’s transportation infrastructure, and keeping up the fight against opioid abuse and addiction.”

Rep. de la Cruz’ committee assignments include Energy & Technology, Housing and Insurance & Real Estate. “I am energized and ready to get back to these important committees,” said de la Cruz. “By working in a bipartisan manner with all of my colleagues we can help improve conditions for residents across Connecticut.”

Rep. de la Cruz will also be Assistant Majority Whip during the 2019 session. “I look forward to the challenge of convincing my fellow legislators to support good legislation and I thank House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz for this opportunity.”
