Repay Businesses Stranded by the Amistad

On Wednesday the legislature approved a deal that will keep manufacturing giant Sikorsky in Connecticut until at least 2032. I supported this deal which will grow jobs and Connecticut's economy, but I also believe we have a responsibility to provide the same enthusiastic support to our small businesses. There's no excuse for not making good on the unpaid bills the Amistad left with businesses across Connecticut, and I will continue to advocate for their repayment.

I reminded my colleagues in the House of this unpaid debt on Wednesday by listing the names of some of the many businesses across Connecticut who have yet to see payment for goods and services provided to Amistad America. Taxpayer money funded the Amistad, making it even more outrageous that the state has not reimbursed these small businesses. You can read more about this issue in an article by The Day.
